The vast majority of designers fail in system design because they do not consider Suspended Solids loads during the design process. Any fluid, whether liquid, air or gas, normally has a wide range of Suspended Solids particles that must be retained during filtration. Based on this, the Suspended Load Designer must design the filtration area and dimensioning of the interior spaces used within the filtration system.

Normally all filtration systems are closed circuit systems so the fluid entering the system needs to have a moderate velocity to avoid damaging the internal parts. Therefore, when designing a system the velocity needs to be taken into account and if there is a high velocity the designer needs to provide a baffle plate to limit the direct impact on the internal parts.

When designing a system, one must be sure of the allowable differential pressure. What is the maximum differential pressure that the system must withstand?

The filter material should be suitable for the chemical structure of the filtered liquid under the conditions under which the filtration will be carried out. This will minimize the risk of structural failure during filtration. Normally, chemical compatibility plays an important role in the selection of equipment material, internal material selection and seal material selection. Each fluid has different properties at different temperatures. Therefore, the designer should be careful to select the specific filter medium, filter housing and seal when designing the filtration system.
